My BREEDING PATHS[]
Before you start reading the chart below please know THESE RESULTS ARE NOT GARUNTEED TO WORK. Don't try my Willow and Lava and be disappointed when you don't get the rarest Dragon. I make no claims to have perfect breeding methods, I have merely decided to help the DragonVale community after a guest posted on my Blog(although I've been working on this before then). In addition, many of these required PURE LUCK. My first Rainbow? Got that going for a Sun. Blue Fire? About 15 Ice before that. Sandstorm? Almost half a month to get ONE. Some results may be immaculate for other parks, or succeed on the first go, but please remember not to launch Scorch Dragons at me if it takes fifty goes. If nothing works, don't give up! And if my own combinations don't work, of course, try your own...
This guide is designed to help both starting players and experts so please enjoy this. And even if these do work, please look at ArtemisJ's results in her blog. She has a fantastic and easily comprehensive list of Dragon Breeding Results.
P.S. My combinations at the beginning may be incorrect, because I don't remember them exactly. However, regardless, they should still have a chance of working.
DragonVale MINIATURE GUIDE[]
So you're at your starting levels and you're just dying to get the Flower Dragon and the Moss Dragon. The Poison Dragon and the Tree Dragon. Whatever you want, you can't get it! Well, as you'll learn A LOT in the later levels, these things require a huge amount of luck.
Here's some error you may be repeating: using the SAME COMBINATION. I myself, well, I don't think I got my first Tree Dragon until I bred Plant and Lava. Odd combination right? Sometimes the weirdest ones work best. And if those ones don't work just try switching the orders! But don't forget- always try the simplest combinations first. Sometimes basics work best. Here are my combinations for getting the four "Base Hybrids", Flower, Poison, Moss, and Tree.
- Plant and Fire succeeded for me straight away.
- When you do get a Flower you can use it later in the game for tricky combos well because it has the fourth shortest breeding time in the game. And the second best of all Hybrid Dragons. Beten only by the Poison Dragon(see below). I can't think of any scenarios off the top of my head, but it should be a huge help.
- Also extremely helpful to level up Element Shrines due to short breeding time and the fact it levels up Fire and Plant Element Shrines simeltainiously.
- After I got my Flower Dragon, I reversed the order into Fire X Plant and it worked first try.
- The Element Shrines upgrade trick that works with Flower works with Poison as well.
- My park seemed to be keyed to the Moss Dragon rather than the Tree Dragon. Trying both Plant X Earth and Earth X Plant I got many Moss Dragons to the point I hatched two in a row by accident which funnily ended up being called Petal and Petals.
- Even after I succeeded in breeding a Tree Dragon (see below) I got yet another Moss Dragon retrying that combination.
- The Tree Dragon actually took a couple of days to get for me. I don't remember the exact combination. I think it was Plant and Lava or Flower and Earth... But I'm not sure. In any case, took quite a while to get one. In fact, I've only bred about three since my first one(well, I don't really breed with Plant much anyways).
Obviously you'll have seen mention of the Lava Dragon in Tree's listing. Lava is very simple to get, Earth Dragon and Fire Dragon or the other way around works a hundred percent, if it's around Halloween you can also get a Bone Dragon.
- Same as Lava Dragon(see above).
- The unique thing about it is it is only distributed around Halloween, check to see if it's available.
- It and the Lava Dragon have the same breeding method and time, but they have different Egg designs.
By the time you get these Hybrids it's likely you'll get the first Cold Dragon available... Even if you can't afford it. The Cold Dragon. Thankfully the Cold Dragon has less "paths" for breeding. Currently you can only get a Mountain Dragon, a Reindeer Dragon (limited edition so check if it's available) or if you're very lucky a Blue Fire Dragon with this. I'll just cover the Mountain Dragon and Reindeer Dragon because a Blue Fire Dragon is some seriously advanced stuff most people don't get until much later.
- Simply Earth X Cold or Cold X Earth. Both are garunteed to work. If you want a challenge anything partially Earth with Cold works and visa-versa.
- There are a few possibilities for a Reindeer Dragon. Apart from the Blue Fire Dragon this will be your first, um, "Incompatable" Hybrid. By that I mean that you can't just breed its two base Elements, Cold and Plant, together as they are incompatible for direct breeding. Instead, you must breed either a Cold Hybrid with a Plant Hybrid or visa-versa. The same rule applies for the following Dragons as well:
- Blue Fire Dragon- As I mentioned before, you could get this one now but it seems you'd have to be incredibly lucky. A Fire Hybrid with a Cold Hybrid or the other way around will work.
- Sandstorm Dragon- Unlike Reindeer and Blue Fire, you currently have no hope of breeding this as it requires an Air Dragon to breed with an Earth Dragon and the Air Element required is unavailable until later in the game.
It might take a little time to save up for your first Lightning Dragon and its Habitat after this, not to mention level up to it, so just be patient. If you need help saving up, check the Strategies page.
Now that you (probably) have the Lightning Dragon, quite a few new possibilities have appeared(including the chance to breed the rare Sun Dragon and Moon Dragon)! If you were relieved that there were no more "differing possibilities" with Cold, as well, then unfortunately for you they're back in the form of the Crystal Dragon and the Quake Dragon. Also note you can't breed your new Lightning Dragon with your Plant Dragon as the two are incompatible.
- Both Lightning X Earth and the other way worked for me, so many times... It's the Moss Dragon all over again!
- I had to breed my Crystal Dragon and Earth Dragon before I finally got this majestic beast into my park.
- It's another branching path! Fire X Lightning, you should know the drill by now, try reversing it if you keep getting Firefly Dragons(see below).
- See Scorch Dragon(above).
- Cold Dragon and Lightning Dragon. This can also result in a Sun Dragon or a Moon Dragon- you will know if your Dragons are taking two days to breed.
- Yes, haha, I dare to cover it so soon! Contrary to may of your beliefs this Dragon is available at this point! I know so by breeding it with Cold and Lightning myself! Many combinations can result in this or a Moon Dragon (below) but I don't think they would increase the chances.
