Recently I thought that there was a lot of lore inside Dragonvale, so I made a sandbox recently to show all that there is inside of this game.  But as I showed people they started liking it and now I'm here to show it off to see, The Dragonvale Lore Sandbox. This shows all the lore inside dragonvale and seperated into sections, the people in dragonvale, the land of dragonvale and a trivial section listed as 'other'. It would be a cousin of the Real Life Refrences page and the current sandbox Shared Features page. It is now listed apart as tabs but it feels a little incomplete by my standards. But I have a current small list of how it could be able to be made better.

• Anchors, with tabs you are not allowed to have headings, anchors are able to link to a certain area of the page without having a header. (Example on the mlp wiki)
• Remove tabs, use another way to seperate them.

But for now I would like to hear the community of Dragonvale's input on what should be changed or remade for the better and if we should publish it onto the actual wiki.

• i love it :)

maybe a tad too long - a little bit of <tabber> coding can fix that

Great work overall!

Edit:Whoa!

• I think, for the "People" section, that the page will be way too long if you include all the descriptions. To me, it would be sufficient to mention the character and include the links to the corresponding pages, rather than re-copy the descriptions.

Also, although the gallery is cute, I don't think it belongs here. If you wanted to show each image of visitors, one view of each in a "visitors" section would be more appropriate.

        Loading editor
• Hm I see, well i thought about only including where they are mentioned in the decription instead of making it a whole big description fest, because sometimes I think it would be nice knowing the person without having to click a bunch of links.

        Loading editor
• I really like the page, but as others have mentioned the first section or two is a bit long. I suggest the tabs be turned into switches and then the lists can be sub-categorized by alphabetical order or location terrain.

I would be glad to help make a switch for this if you'd like; as I am sure others would like to help to if asked.

Also, I agree with DT about the gallery, but to maybe "fluff" that tab up more an explanation of where the visitors and wizards are found in the game and maybe have the image next to that.

This page will be a great addition to the wiki!

Just asking how would i add an image to certain words?

You can take add an image and then choose the position you want it next to the words. The image below is in right, but to center it or make it on the left you would just replace to word with the desired one.

Witch2

I feel like that would make the page very cluttered as you would have pictures all down the page instead of a neat gallery.

        Loading editor
• It might, but it would depend on how they are displayed, and I think some could stay in a small gallery.

        Loading editor
• Howdy! I checked the sandbox and I can't help but have some concerns regarding some things.

1. Maybe it will be best if we actually talk about what "Lore" is in the page? I feel like this word is not used by an average person browsing for information. If we don't at least explain what "Lore" means -- as an introduction or such, then the rest of the contents on the page will be kind of lost.

2. The descriptions on the "People in DragonVale" section. I believe we don't need to list wach descriptions here. I think this will be best made into a table where:

• Column 1: Type of people(?) and Column 2: Seen on:

So if the type of people is referenced/seen on multiple pages, we can list all of them in a table form. It will be less cloggy than having to put all the descriptions on the page, and that 1 click is not that much of a difference if the page looks clean and organized.

3. Overall, I think a table will fit nicely on presenting the page. The images? I don't know if they're needed or not on the page, but I'll let the other community members decide.

Nice job compiling all these things! I hope my opinions and suggestions will be given proper actions :) Thanks for reading! ~

• 1. Lore is a generally descriptive word, you can always use redirects in a page for these types of things like dragon racing or racing redirected to dragon track.

2. Thinking about removing the descriptions and just keeping the people because of the lengthy page, also, thats why the cousin Shared Features page is in 'beta' per say so we dont need to have the same list on 2 pages. Though i really don't know about a table because I don't think itll fix most of it.

3. Galleries are kinda a mixed reaction right now so i'll think on it.

• The column idea for the people with a reference to where it was mentioned could be good. It might be nice to have a compilation of all the quotes store on the page in another section for anyone who wants to read a list of full descriptions containing lore.

That sounds like a better idea, though im kinda unsure about adding refrences in 2 places if the beta real life refrences will come soon into place.

• They aren't really references, more of a link to where it is found.

A sandbox is used to make drafts of a page to work on making them prior to publishing them as article pages on the wiki.

• Hello!Everyone.

First and foremost, I would like to thank Mylittlewut for gathering/compiling all the information in one page and making a sandbox for it :)

I also agree that the first tab is quite lengthy. I like Justin's suggestion for making a table and Bane's suggestion of turning the tabs be into switches and then the lists can be sub-categorized by alphabetical order. We could combine both this suggestion. As Justin have mentioned, there could be multiple references to one type of people/wizard/witch,etc. For example, the wizard Dalfgan is mentioned in the description of Astrolabe also.

We could also add a small introduction about this page (like Justin suggested) :)

I'm not sure about the gallery part :3

        Loading editor
• True, all of these suggestions would be easy to do if a consensus add them in is made. We could even ask for a banner to be designed to match its two cousin pages in the process of being made/redesigned.

This is going to be a great page, and I am grateful Mylittlewut already did the hard work of going through the article pages and compiling all the lore in one spot. Thank you again for doing that.

Agree! Yup! A banner would sure look good on the page :) I <3 banners....xD (not sure how many times I said this)

only 2 days, ive had longer wiki projects.

• i really didnt understand that page, what is "lore"

        Loading editor
• Lore:

a body of traditions and knowledge on a subject or held by a particular group, typically passed from person to person by word of mouth

~Oxford Dictionary

        Loading editor
• Thank you for supplying the definition Wiz.

The word might sound more familiar in the context of "folk lore"

        Loading editor
• Hello! "Wizard Clinic" is mentioned in the Pollen Dragon's description. Should we include it in the "World's tab"?

thank you (late) but it might take awhile for it to fully complete.

        Loading editor
• I would suggest the page begin with a "high level" definition of lore (as Justin also stated) as that is not a commonly used word. Based on the definition Wiz pulled up, I'm not sure it's the right word for this page.

Once it is clearly defined (in laymen's terms) it's easier to say whether things belong on the page or not. I like this, in concept, but could see it becoming a mishmash in the future because it's not clearly defined.

        Loading editor
• Well im curious what other word we can use instead of 'lore' i understand we want it more simple but i dont know a better word.

And the page itself is more of an encyclopedia within the game, i think its useful for something.

        Loading editor
• What is your overall concept of what the page is? I'm not saying it's not "lore" but you should be able to clearly define the word and tie its content to the word.

        Loading editor
• To be an encylopedia of sorts or dictionary of people and places that are scattered around the stories or descriptions of the dragons, decor, etc

        Loading editor
• So, is it about "People and Places in DragonVale"? That's not what "lore" means, so maybe that's a better page title?

        Loading editor
• Dragon trip wrote:

Though I do wish for it to be shorter title, possibly "Descriptions" or something a bit smaller?

        Loading editor
• I don't think "Descriptions" describes what you want. Why would it necessarily need to be shorter?

"Descriptions" is very broad. It's not a page full of descriptions, although you are describing some things. All of our pages could probably be called "Descriptions".

But, do I have the right understanding? You want it to be a page about characters and places found in the game?

I do think we want to get to a tight understanding of the goal of the page, so that we can ensure we don't have things added that don't fit the overall concept.

        Loading editor
• Yes thats what I do want the page to be about. But again i dont know a certain word on what to be as the title.

        Loading editor
• Perhaps something along the idea of "DragonVale Mythology"

        Loading editor
• Mythology might work, it sounds nice and short.

        Loading editor
• I don't think it's mythology on any level. Myths generally connote beliefs; this are just items.

We almost need a synonym for "Noun". But I would rather a long title that describes the content than a short word that is not quite right.

        Loading editor
• I agree..this isn't really mythology

        Loading editor
• Possible words:

• History
• Dragonvale Descriptions
• Legends
• Biography

These are very vague or unmatching words but I'm unsure on what else could be used, just using 'Dragonvale' in the title seems kinda pointless and that it would need a lot of redirects.

        Loading editor
• I think perhaps it can be similar to the Real Life page (long title, but describes exactly what it is) and go with "People and Places in DragonVale" or "DragonVale Characters and Locales".

They are not legends; I'm not sure how "history" applies. Every page has a description on it, so that doesn't describe this page.

Biography would work if you remove all but the characters, as that is related to "people".

You could have two pages: Geography and Biography

        Loading editor
• Geography and biography could possibly work as a page alone with two redirects to the page. Though i like both names so far.

        Loading editor
• Me, too. If it's called Geography and Biography (whether one page or two) it defines it. And each could have an intro that describes that one is about places, one about characters. Just want to be sure that things that don't fit are not put in the page, ultimately.

Hey, MLW, we can create a whole new word! "DragonVale GeoBiographics"!

Just kidding; the purists would kill me.

        Loading editor
• Check this out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biogeography

Maybe we can coin our own phrase after all!

        Loading editor
• I agree that mythology isn't the best choice of word.

Biogeography is a branch of geography which relates to how the physical geographic environments affect the biological development and characteristics of the organisms in it.

Perhaps, "DragonVale Ecology and Geography"

        Loading editor
• Well ecology sounds a little off when talking about people. the descriptions kinda write on how their life is.

        Loading editor
• I agree, MLW. I was not recommending we use "Biogeography", as it definitely means something else. My linking that was more tongue-in-cheek.

Maybe, for alliteration, "Ethos and Environments"?

        Loading editor
• Enviorments / Geography works well, though we can't find a certain word for the people inside dragonvale.

        Loading editor
• Ethos? That's about the people.

        Loading editor
• Ethos isn't much of a popular word, much like lore.

        Loading editor
• Agree. I didn't realize we were seeking a popular word, just descriptive. My challenge with "Lore" is not that it is not familiar, but that it does not seem to describe what your page concept is.

        Loading editor
• Well we do want to find a word that fits but people understand, but yes lore does not fit but much people do not know the word, enviorments or geography works for the locations of the areas but then the people is a hard word to think of, sorry if we are running in circles.

        Loading editor
• It's okay; circles are cool.

If Geography works, why not Biography for people?

        Loading editor
• Well i think biography is just dandy for people. though i thought overs disagreed with it. If not i think its a good name.

        Loading editor
• Just me and you in this part of the discussion so far!

        Loading editor
• People learn things all the time on the wiki, so I don't see an issue with using "Ethos" if it is preferred and flows better in the title.

would be funny if we had a page called "DragonVale Tales" and it would be about stories of people and places within the DragonVale realm. Could even be a book...or animated show...with that title...imagination of those mediums initiated.

        Loading editor
• To help in the disccusion about the word "lore", the word might not be common in normal language, but it is commonly used in games. In my opinion the only things that fall under the category lore in the sandbox are the things under "people in dragonvale". So most of it is lore and things about the world of dragonvale. Why not call it "the world of dragonvale" (or something that is similair).

I am also not to fond of the lay-out for the things under "World" but that could always be changed later on.

        Loading editor
• I do love the word "Ethos" and we could easily write an intro to the page that explains that it's about "Ethos (meaning xxx) and Environments (yyy)" or whatever it's called.

This popped in my head last night and I realized that we started with a concern that "People and Places" is too long. So, clearly "Biography and Geography" or "Ethos and Environments" or any such combination would also fall into the "too long" realm. I think the length of the title should not be the primary concern, as long as the title conveys the content.

        Loading editor
• So if this is a vote, i prefer "People and Places" and "Biography and Geography" I realize that the too long thing will have to be streched, though i feel like 'Dragonvale' should not be in the title.

        Loading editor
• It's not a vote. It's your page proposal at this point, so I think we are suggesting changes you might want to make.

        Loading editor
• Ah, well in the end it is the communities desision on what the page name is (and I don't feel like i should rename the page until it will actually be published)

        Loading editor
• Agree!

        Loading editor
• The majority of it could be considered lore I suppose, but the word ethos does have a certain thing about which makes it sound exotic and fun. Although, if we aren't going with ethos or lore in the title then I suppose "DragonVale's People and Places" is easy and catchy.

        Loading editor
• I like Biography and Geography :) sounds like a description of the world dragonvale.

        Loading editor
• Again i prefer not using the word dragonvale, cause then redirects are needed

        Loading editor
• Video games tend to use lore, or so I am told. I am fine with Lore as the word used.

        Loading editor
• As I said, the word lore really does not apply to what MLW is describing as the intent of this page.

        Loading editor
• Mylittlewut wrote: Again i prefer not using the word dragonvale, cause then redirects are needed

I may not remember this part if it was mentioned earlier, but I'm confused about how using "DragonVale" in the title would require redirects.

        Loading editor
• Well i tried searching 'real life refrences' but the search would not dare show me the actual page unless the word 'dragonvale' was in it.

        Loading editor
• not true - while it might not take you to the exact page right away, if you search "real life references" (and i just did to test it) the first result is a link to the page.

        Loading editor
• it didnt for me until i found it myself.

        Loading editor
• This came up as the link when I searched "Real Life References"

Search Results for "Real Life References" In the Search Bar"

        Loading editor
• I am not sure what happened for you, but it searches just fine. Also imo every (usefull) page should be findable without the use of a search function so the name should not be based around the search function.

        Loading editor
• There is an option of removing "DragonVale" from all of the pages that currently have it in it, but since this these pages are information about the DragonVale the actual content in the game and isn't as "tangible" as a decoration or dragon the "DragonVale" part of the titles are meant to identify the information on these pages relate to DragonVale and not something else. Although it could be argued that since it is on the DragonVale Wiki it should be assumed that the pages with "DragonVale" in their name relates to the content (especially if someone were to read it), but it also bad to make assumptions.

Either way I find the pages easily, but that might be because I know the names of the pages. I think for these "cousin" pages it might be helpful to create a portal between them for easier navigation. I'm not sure if this will help with what you are mentioning, but it would be easy to do once we create/find portal images to identify the pages with.

        Loading editor
• I can work on a temperary portal list for cousins, but i think that people should know that every article on the wiki is related to the game no matter if real life refrences or the new help page.

        Loading editor
• A portal navigation bar for this will be very easy to make once I have the images. We would basically have this page, the real life references page, and the comparative and shared features pages when that is complete.

        Loading editor
• Just wondering ... where exactly are we on this project now?

        Loading editor
• Mylittlewit mentioned in chat the other day that she'd like to have this finish by two weeks from now if possible. Although I'm sure others would help if help is requested if there is trouble getting it done by then or the week after.

        Loading editor
• Okay that's cool, I just hoped this wasn't forgotten ... recently forums have been going dormant more often.

        Loading editor
• I have a suggestion though to help organize the people. What if we make sub-sections (which will then be in alphabetical order) of:

"Wizards" "Witches "Masters" "Groups" "Other"

and for The World:

"North" "East" "South" "West" "Dragon Track" "Gallery"

I still think the aesthetics of this page would benefit from adding a switch and doing subsections in tabs like on the DragonVale Real Life References page.

        Loading editor
• Actually those sub sections would greatly improve, mostly for locations (because of how i had it set up) but I have no idea how to do the sub section pages.

        Loading editor
• The pages with the sub-sections that I have seen on this wiki are switches with the section title with tabbers in them to show the sub sections like on the Real Life Page.

I can make a switch for the page once we know the name of the page. If you want to split your one tabber into three they can be placed into the switch after.

        Loading editor
• Well the only two seperate page tabbers i would want is People (or anything of your choosing) and Locations, then i can settle what tabs i want in there Would make a lot of work much easier.

        Loading editor
• True, right now you have three sections, and two seem to have sub-categories which would be in one tabber each.

        Loading editor
• Ah yes, there will have to be a third tabber for trivia, i forgot about that, but anything to do with people would go into the people section, anything about locations into the locations and if your confused i can just mark them down.

        Loading editor
• I'll take a look.

• There has been no activity on this forum for almost 3 months. Based upon community process, it will be closed in 24 hours unless new discussion begins, and will be moved to an archive.

        Loading editor
• Kind of a shame after all the work which was put into it.

        Loading editor
• Im sorry for inactivity on this wiki, i got current life situations that stop me from helping out the wiki, if i ever get free time again ill try to work back again onto the lore and such, but at the time it seems to be at a hiatus

        Loading editor
• You do NOT need to apologize, MLW. Life happens; it may be that another user might like to take your concept forward. There's always more time, as well.

        Loading editor
• There has been a lot going on the past couple months in the game which in turn means a lot going on with updating the wiki, but perhaps when things calm down again other things and projects will regain focus again.

Life happens off of the wiki. It is okay.
