In December 2024, the DragonVale Community Forum and Deca Games hosted The DV Lore Contest - Winter Edition 2024. One of the contest questions asked what was the inspiration behind the Shaper Dragon’s design. The Deca DV Team stated: 'We wanted a dragon that showed the childish urge to lick and play with ice. It also takes inspiration from a famous ice sculptor.'

The Shaper Dragon's appearance having long claws and its description mentioning "Slashing at the ice they sculpt wonders, creating crystalline masterpieces." may be a reference to film Edward Scissorhands .
