Artifacts

Main article: Artifacts

In order for the player to summon the legendary dragon Kairos to their park, they will need to complete the Perch of Kairos by recovering three different artifacts. Each artifact is comprised of seven fragments, which can be obtained by racing, questing, or purchasing with gems. The appearance of the Perch changes as each artifact is assembled, with Kairos appearing following the completion of the final artifact.

Artifacts for the Perch of Kairos include the Chronolith, Time Claw, and the Perch of Kairos; requiring a total of 21 fragments to be found or purchased in order to summon Kairos. Alternatively, Kairos can be purchased with gems in the Market, at a cost of Gem template2,700.

Quests

Main article: Quests

Once the player reaches level 16 and unlocks the Perch of Kairos, they can begin sending their dragons on Quests in order to gather the artifacts needed to summon Kairos. When pressing the Quest button, a popup will appear and show the name of a randomly-generated quest at the top of the menu. Prior to April 13, 2016, players were required to pay a fee of Coin template50,000 in order to send a dragon on a quest.

Each quest has a "perfect dragon" which rewards the player with two keys if selected; there is a unique quest for every dragon in the game. Although it may seem difficult to determine which dragon to send, the name of the quest, along with the elements provided on either side of the menu, hint towards the perfect dragon. If the player lacks the perfect dragon to complete a quest, they can instead select a different dragon. Dragons which contribute the elements shown on the quest menu have the greatest chance to bring back better rewards.

The time required for a dragon to complete a quest depends on the perfect dragon's rarity:

Upon finishing a quest, the selected dragon will return with either treats, one key (if given elements are followed), or two keys (if the perfect dragon is selected). When a dragon returns with a key, a menu will appear with three chests. The number of chests that the player can open for free is dependent on the number of keys obtained.

Chests are capable of containing the following items:

Racing

Main Article: Dragon Track

Artifact fragments can also be obtained by completing races at the Dragon Track. When a player places third or better following a dragon race, they will be presented with three randomized chests, with the choice to open one or two of them. The prizes which can be obtained from the chests differ depending on the result of the race, with 3rd place containing less rewards and 1st place containing more rewards. Although artifact fragments can be obtained no matter the place the player's dragon achieves, they have the greatest chance of appearing if the player gets first place.

If the player's dragon gets 4th or 5th place, they do not win any prize. Chests are capable of containing the following items:

During Off to the Races! mini-events, players are also capable of receiving a random dragon egg from chests.

Notes

  • The Perch of Kairos was released on October 17, 2012, along with Kairos.
  • The Perch of Kairos is the first habitat that does not generate dragoncash or gems.
  • Upon purchasing the Perch of Kairos from the "Habitats" section from the market, artifacts must be assembled to enable summoning Kairos. There are three ways to acquire the artifacts:
    • You can send your dragons on quests, which require the user to send a dragon on a quest to collect rewards including dragoncash, treats, experience, and artifacts.
      • Quests are completed in different time frames, unlike the Colosseum which has a standard time frame of 24 hours.
      • The recommended elements can be seen in the dragon select screen on the top corners before entering a quest.
      • Quests conclude with a box that says "(Dragon Name) has found (Prize Found)".
      • Quests take between 2 hours and 24 hours to complete, although they can be sped up with gems.
    • You can receive fragments from Dragon Track racing.
    • You can purchase fragments with gems.
  • The Perch of Kairos does not count in the maximum habitat count, although some users experienced an issue where they were unable to purchase it if they were already at the maximum number of habitats. Selling a habitat allows the Perch of Kairos to be purchased, and subsequently the original habitat can be re-purchased.
  • The Perch of Kairos represents the first time the game requires players to obtain a habitat before the dragon can be created.
  • DragonVale on Android-devices received the Perch of Kairos on December 6, 2012.
  • On April 29, 2013, the Perch of Kairos and the "Enter" icon received its own unique sound upon clicking it.
  • On June 27, 2013, a new two-step filter system for sorting dragons by elements was added.
  • On September 23, 2014, the Perch of Kairos changed in appearance.
  • On April 8, 2015, the Perch of Kairos got a countdown timer upon zooming in while a quest while active, to find out when their dragons will be completed with their quest.
  • On March 4, 2016, the Perch of Kairos was decorated with balloons to celebrate Kairos birthday.
