Game Description
The majestic panlong dragon originates from the Far East and it's said to only come out of hiding once every twelve years. Though it prefers to be near water, they have occasionally been seen in many other types of habitats. Rumor has it that these dragons are not only a distant cousin of the rainbow dragon, but they're almost as rare too! I wonder if it's a coincidence that they only seem to show up during the year of the dragon.

Breeding

The Panlong Dragon can be bred using any two dragons, in either order, containing the Water, Earth, Fire and Air elements, at any Breeding Cave.

Additional Release History Information
*Although not being apart of the Eggstraordinary Egg Hunt, the Panlong Dragon was released for a short time to give players a chance to breed the Ovalith Dragon, which Panlong is a required parent.

Notes

  • The Frostfire Dragon, which was introduced as a hidden dragon on January 14, 2012, became available in the market the same date that the Panlong Dragon was released.
  • The Panlong Dragon has the longest availability time of all limited dragons to date at 389 days.
  • The Panlong Dragon is the first dragon to be assigned four elements.
  • The Panlong Dragon was the fastest dragoncash earner in DragonVale. At level 19 and/or 20 with two positive boosts, it can make Coin template 540 per minute.
  • Initially, the Panlong Dragon was available at level 14, but the level availability was changed on October 9, 2013, to level 16.
  • The appearance of the Panlong Dragon is similar to the Rainbow Dragon.
    • The in-game description mentions that the Panlong Dragon and the Rainbow Dragon are rumored to be cousins; "Rumor has it that these dragons are not only a distant cousin of the rainbow dragon,…".
  • January 28, 2017-February 13, 2017 marks the only time the Panlong Dragon was re-released outside of a special event or promotion, that was also not in the Year of the Dragon Chinese zodiac cycle.
  • On March 18, 2022, the Panlong Dragon was added to the Burcadian Bazaar during Luck of the Vale, which was the first time it could be purchased with event currency since its release in 2012. It was also the first time the Panlong Dragon returned outside of any type of comeback event since spring 2018.
  • On February 10, 2024, the Chinese Lunar New Year occurred changing to the Year of the Dragon, marking the completion of the 12 year zodiac cycle from the Panlong Dragon's initial release in 2012.
    • The Panlong Dragon did not return until February 20, 2024. It is unknown why there was a 10-day gap between the Lunar New Year celebration and the Panlong Dragon's reappearance.
    • Every 12 years the Year of the Dragon has a different element, in 2012 it was the Year of the Water Dragon. In 2024, it was the Year of the Wood Dragon.

Possible References

  • The Panlong Dragon's description states, "originates from the Far East and is said to come out of hiding every twelve years". The Far East is where China is located, and every twelve years the Year of the Dragon comes around again in the Chinese Zodiac cycle.
  • The Panlong Dragon's egg has a simplified Chinese character on it; (龙) translates to "Dragon". In Chinese, it reads "lóng". The "Pan (蟠)" translates to "coiling" or "curling". Therefore Panlong equals 蟠龙 (Curled/Coiled Dragon).
  • The Panlong Dragon's elements are considered to be the four primary elements of the earth.
