Possible References
- The Osteryx Dragon's name possibly comes from the word osteo, which means bone, due to it carrying a bone in its mouth.
- Its name could also come from the word hysterics, which describe its hysterical appearance.
- Its name may also be based on the Archaeopteryx, a prehistoric bird-like animal that is thought to be the ancestor of modern birds, due to its feathery appearance and name. the -teryx at the end likely comes from Archaeopteryx, and the bone in its mouth and its name containing osteo are likely references to Archaeopteryx being a prehistoric creature which we only know about from bones.
- Its appearance and bone-eating may be based on the Lämmergeier (or bearded) vulture, a large bird of prey that feeds on bones and carrions.
