  • Hello, Ria!

I just read you message on this forum thread. Everyone are entitled to their own opinion so I won't go much about the Wiki Rules and Policies Enforcement Guidelines.

I was a little hurt by a few statement of yours not regarding to the vote.

    1) As it stands now, no one can edit anything here unless they are staff. If you try to put in even a note on a dragon page, it will be removed by someone.

If you don't mind, may I ask why do you feel that no one can edit here except for staff members? Was there any note added that was removed without an edit summary or a message on a user's wall? I'm really not sure how to address this issue but some other helpful users and I are working on a Manual Of Style for this site. We have tried to include everything including a reminder to leave messages for users if their edit has been reverted. Do you have any suggestion that we could add to the sandbox to avoid this? I only remember some notes which were removed by users were related to appearance of a dragon (very subjective), and some which was included in another upcoming page sandbox. Most of the notes, are usually modified for consistency purposes.

    2) The Guidelines are actually set up so that staff members could take similar action when needed. For now there isn't any and not usually most of the users are aware of it since there could be new users joining the wiki and it's not about the policy but enforcement for it. I don't think most of Wiki's have similar policy. For an example, I saw a wiki that don't mind spoiler. We just try our best to make this a safe place.

This is not related to this thread at all but I just had to say it..haha.. The other day I came across a wiki related to dragon breeding and you were an admin there. DragonCity Wiki :D I was so happy to see a dragon they introduced in the game..lol.. It was Ronaldo Dragon. That was so cool! I was going to post a comment there but totally forgot about it and got busy with other stuffs. Did you manage to get that dragon?

  • Hey Rianza,

I apologize if you feel offended about my posts in the discussion for Wolfie. I know that you are strongly supportive for him in this decision, however, I would like to let you know that I am currently neutral on this discussion and in no way do I have an 'agenda' for a candidate's demise.

There are many exceptional points about Wolfie becoming a chat mod, which I am highly supportive of, however, the discussion of flaws in a user is to help them prepare and improve on what can be seen of them outside their own perspective. Being able to receive their input and intentions on these cases helps them and others to see how things in the future might be handled, as most of the information retrieved from them is from the past.

I hope that now you will understand my intentions for my recent critical posts.

Thanks and happy new year -EX

    • Hi EX,

Thanks for your post.  I appreciate you explaining your feelings on the matter.  I want you to know one thing, though.  I start to get a bit annoyed whenever I see someone have to answer the same things over and over, whether I am supportive of them or not.   It's one of the things I don't like about this process.  It always seems to me to be a week of having to put up with what anyone wants to throw at the candidate for what may be personal reasons and that is not appropriate and it's not fair.  I'm not implying that you were doing this in any way, but when I see these types of things occurring I always wonder.

I do agree with you that it is important to get a feel on how someone may handle things but I also think that some folks start to behave as though we were electing someone to Congress instead of a staff position on a wiki.

Again, thanks for your gracious note and Happy New Year to you too!

      ~Ria

  • I'm not sure who you might have been speaking to in your post on Blue's wall, but as far as I am concerned, you are free to privately ask for my input on why I do something. And, if you are not comfortable with the processes the community voted for (twice, in fact), it might be more helpful to draft a different policy than to merely indirectly insult people.

    • Katie, I know you wouldn't.  But let's say I proposed to do aways with "consensus" voting by the admins for a nomination to proceed.  That gives 1 person control of the whole process.  They can in effect "blackball" someone from being promoted, even if all the admins have done their best to persuade them and they are not taking any notice of the wishes of the community.  This must have been put in while I was ill, because I would never have consented to that!  One person...can stop someone else from being promoted.  If that's not control..(and power)  I don't know what is.  But enough of my rant.  That isn't the isuue, and I'm not prepared to do anything about it at this time, so 'nuff said".  But these things disturb me deeply.

    • I understand.

The one thing that helps in the "vetting" is that if an Admin blocks someone, that Admin must publicly state the issues and provide input on what the user might do to "improve" for future options.

The "admin vetting" came from other wikis; I was also kind of surprised it was supported. I think what we gain from having that, as much as it could be abused, is that sometimes we may know things about a user that it might not be good to share on the public discussion. For example, if I found out a user had lied about their age for a long time, I may not say that in the public discussion, but it might be a reason that I share with other admins to be considered.

It's never going to be perfect, but the discussion is always valuable.

  • I hope I captured your concerns sufficiently on the "Removal" addendum. If not, please let me know (in addition to voting); I won't be offended or insulted or whatever "negative" thing people worry about!

Thanks so much for your input; it was good feedback.

    • Hi Katie, I've missed you too!  It seems whenever I am on, I never see you...then I get busy or like now, am dealing with a health issue that keeps me sidelined!  I keep wanting to get more involved in the chat room or in editing, but everytime I get on a roll, something interferes.  That seems to be a message to me that perhaps this is not a good time to try to take on more responsibility here, much as I would like to.

How was your trip?  I hope everything went well and you enjoyed the kids!  Hope everything is fine with you and I'll try to catch up to you sometime in chat when we can talk.

    • All is well here. My time in California was awesome! Work is a bit insane and the wiki is, as always, the wiki!

Hope you are feeling stronger and healthy very soon.
