Dragons in DragonVale produce certain sounds or cries. These sounds can be heard when a person clicks on a dragon's image of it in the habitat from the controls on the bottom of the screen or in the "Dragons" section of the Market. The sound of the dragon is accompanied by a little animation of the dragon if clicked on in the Market. Some of the dragons have unique cries depending on their element, while some dragons share the same sound. There are other dragons whose cries are different, but very similar-sounding.

- On November 11, 2011, many new dragon sound effects were added into the game.
- Prior to October 18, 2012, Kairos shared its sound with the Plant Dragon, but on that date it changed to a unique sound.
- When the Blizzard Dragon was initially released, the adult form did not have any sound or cry when the image in the habitat menu was clicked. It was assumed that this was due to a glitch or a bug. On February 19, 2013, the glitch was corrected.
- On March 15, 2013, the Metal Element Dragons made new sounds.
- In an unofficial update, dragon sounds can be heard by clicking the dragon's image in the habitat menu. Previously, the dragon's sound could only be heard once after clicking the habitat menu.
