Hello Everyone!
Some users have expressed interest in having multiple featured articles in the "Announcements" side bar of the Main Page.
I thought this would be a great opportunity to discuss which sub-categories we would like to see featured.
In the past we would usually see the most recent Epic or Limited Dragon featured, and at some point we have been posting any newly released dragon.
This gave me an idea that maybe we should create a two or three article toggle similar to this template:
http://dragonvale.wikia.com/wiki/User:Bane_Cane/featured_articles_toggle
Of course any other proposals are welcomed, but please keep in mind that any code would have to be implemented into the sidebar and shouldn't be too wide.
For example the template linked above would look the following in the standard sidebar width set on the Main Page:
http://dragonvale.wikia.com/wiki/User:Bane_Cane/toggle_featured_articles_mp
Please note that the sidebar is below the main column since it is in a sandbox and not on the actual Main Page.
At this time the coding on the example toggle template above needs some adjustments so it does not show all articles at once upon the initial page loading before toggling between articles begin.
With a visual example to help illustrate the multiple featured articles idea available this leads to what we as a community would like to see as the two or three sub-categories.
Thus far it has been suggested that we could have the following:
1) "Hurry Up Before It's Gone!" - the most recent limited dragon is featured.
- An idea connected to this is if multiple limited dragons are available at the same time a rotation could be set up every five days or week so all are featured.
- A second idea was that when a last call notification is released we feature that particular dragon in this spot.
2) "Newest Dragon" - the most recent dragon released into DragonVale
3) "Community Choice" a monthly choice decided upon by the community to display any article (not only dragons) that is thought to be well written, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing.
Discussion is now open to all ideas and suggestions!
Edit: The toggle template example is now functioning properly.
