Backflip Studios was founded in April 2009, and was based in Boulder, Colorado. They founded many popular games, although were best known for Paper Toss, with over 50 million lifetime downloads, and DragonVale, with over 10 million lifetime downloads. Across all of their games, they had more than 200 million lifetime downloads. At their peak, Backflip Studios games were played by more than four million users daily and 30 million users monthly.
On October 24, 2019, Backflip Studios was shut down by Hasbro, Inc, causing all but two games to be discontinued - DragonVale and Transformers: Earth Wars. After its shutdown, Hasbro took control of Transformers: Earth Wars, while DragonVale was taken over by DECA Games.

Backflip Studios was founded by Julian Farrior, Tom Blind and Dale Thoms in April 2009. By August 2009 they had gained $145,000 to keep designing games for the iPhone.
On July 8, 2013, Backflip Studios announced (here) that it had sold a 70% share of the company to Hasbro, Inc. The company would be staying in Boulder, Colorado and would continue to be run by the same management until its shutdown.
Backflip Studios shut down on October 24, 2019. The ownership of DragonVale was handed over to Deca Games, which continues to run the game to this day, while the ownership of Transformers: Earth Wars was handed over to Hasbro. All of their other games - including DragonVale's sister games DragonVale World, DragonVale Pop, and DragonVale Wings, as well as their other popular games Ninjump and Paper Toss - were discontinued.
